BRUSSELS, 9 November 2021 – The preliminary programme of the inaugural European Retirement Week was presented today. The week will begin with a launch event on 29 November, featuring a keynote speech by Mairead McGuinness, European Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability and the Capital Markets Union. The launch event will be followed by a range of presentations and panel discussions that will be organised individually by the eleven participating associations. AEIP and PensionsEurope provided their joint stakeholder feedback to EIOPA’s Discussion Paper on a Methodological Framework for Stress-Testing IORPs. With that, the two organizations make recommendations on the toolbox of common methodological principles and guidelines but also suggestions for its use in the next IORP stress test exercise in 2022. In particular, we support the consideration by EIOPA of the creation of a toolbox and believe that it can allow introducing further proportionality and create a better cost-benefit ratio by considering the specific pension scheme/IORP characteristics in different Member States. AEIP provided input to EIOPA’s consultation on Technical Advice on the Development of Pension Dashboards and the Collection of Pensions Data. AEIP understands the dashboards’ all-inclusive approach in order to capture all institutions, vehicles and mechanisms through which citizens enjoy social protection and old-age income, since this means that different kind of providers that are not seen for the moment need to be included there. AEIP provided input to EIOPA’s consultation on Pension Tracking Systems (PTS). In it AEIP stressed that the PTS should strive to maximize its use as a source of personal pension information for all citizens and pensions savers in Member States. The PTS should be a valuable source of information for all citizens that want to know about their personal pension situation, as it is an essential factor of confidence in the national pension system and is directly related to the social protection policy of each Member State. AEIP responded to the EIOPA’s consultation on the supervisory reporting of costs and charges of IORPs. Overall, AEIP agrees with cost transparency and comprehensive cost reporting as an objective of the management board of the IORP and/or the negotiating social partners in the setup of a pension scheme, however this objective should not cause more transparency costs than transparency value. Extensive cost communication to the members and beneficiaries should be limited to pure DC schemes with investment options where costs are borne by the members. As of the beginning of July AEIP officially welcomes two new members in its working groups on healthcare affairs and pensions, respectively the French paritarian organization A2VIP and the Hellenic Union of Institutions for Occupational Retirement Provision – HUIORP, representing occupational insurance in Greece.
