New AEIP-EFBWW-FIEC Research Paper “Mental health in the construction industry”
AEIP, as a research coordinator, developed a research paper on the topic of Mental Health in the Construction Industry as part of the joint project carried out between May 2017 – March 2019 by the European social partners of the construction industry – the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers European – EFBWW and the European Construction Industry Federation – FIEC.
With this project, the European Social partners – EFBWW and FIEC aimed to address the topic of occupational mental health from the sector-specific perspective of the construction industry, to improve the stakeholders’ understanding of the subject and to provide for an up-to-date evaluation of existing best practices at national level.
In addition, the project resulted in concrete guidelines for the evaluation and prevention of psychosocial risks in small enterprises in the construction sector. The guidelines present existing concepts and best practices as well as a concept for an evaluation tool for companies’ self-assessment of psychosocial risk factors.
The research project aims to deepen understanding of mental health in the specific context of the construction industry and eventually formulate pathways for solutions. With this objective in mind national reports from the 7 EU Member States of focus i.e. Demark, Spain, Finland, Belgium, France, Poland and Austria, served as the basis for the elaboration of the final research report and as a reference point in drawing up the conclusions, recommendations and evaluation guidelines for the sector.
